Unlike other steel targets available on the market, the hit zones of the STEELFLY target system are not painted, but galvanized. The problem with classic painted targets is that the paint peels off after the first shots. On the other hand, regularly painting the parts creates several layers of paint that make functionality difficult over time.

The hit zones of the STEELFLY Airgun Shooting Target Box targets are electrochemically coated with zinc. Electrochemical surface coating with zinc provides higher protection against corrosion and mechanical damage while maintaining the visual image.

When a lead bullet hits a galvanized surface, the zinc layer at the point of impact is deformed and is more difficult to separate from the surface, thus protecting the surface from corrosion and maintaining the visual image and color. STEELFY uses zinc coating in both silver and black zinc in its products. The surfaces of galvanized parts may have an uneven shade of different shades. Electrochemically deposited zinc coating creates various light reflection effects, but its anti-corrosion properties do not change. The mechanical strength of the surface coating of galvanized parts is much higher than that of paint.

In turn, parts of the target system that are not exposed to direct hits are painted. Before painting, the parts undergo a phosphating process - the parts are chemically prepared for painting and coated.

For painted parts, a multi-stage surface pretreatment method is used to clean, decontaminate, and chemically prepare metal surfaces before powder coating is applied. It involves a sequence of seven chemical treatments, each designed to remove oils, rust, and oxides, and finally apply a phosphate layer that improves corrosion resistance and enhances coating adhesion. Thus, the painted parts are protected both by the paint layer and by the phosphating layer underneath it.
